Art

I feel like writing about art. All art. Art can be b.s. or amazing or in between, but it is always something, something to think about. I am reminded of Dave in "Nipple Jesus" but I like how society has encouraged creativity for the masses to ponder deeply. What the artist feels can be far different from what the viewer understands the piece to mean depending on his or her background. I am in no way an art connoisseur, but I definitely appreciate the beauty that humans can put on a canvas and share with others without having to explain every stroke or what the overall theme is. My favorite painting is "The Garden of Earthly Delights" by Bosch in the 1500's. It is pretty crazy you should check it out. I also love a certain Bob Ross! That guy is the coolest afro-haired, peaceful, soft-spoken man to ever have a public broadcasted television show. I tend to appreciate things that cannot be duplicated by a machine or another person, no matter how good or bad it may be. I love that part of being human, no one can duplicate what we think/do/make that is ours and unique. Someone can try to replicate another person’s work, but it can never be as cool as the original. I like how art is rare, art is worth money, art is made famous, but no one can agree on whether or not a painting is good or not. Everyone can go and scratch their chin in silent contemplation and never get the same result as those next to them. I like that.

  1. bob ross! yes! i never knew, as i sat in front of the tv as a kid, that this guy would become something of an icon in our generation. in fact, i didnt even know anyone else knew about the guy until i got my second job and a co-worker came in with a bob ross t-shirt! i was like oh em gee! i love that man!
i was thinking, as i was reading this post, about poetry as art, too. i mean, that's what we're focusing on right now, and really so much of poetry is up to the reader to interpret - just like a painting or a sculpture is. i think that's the appeal of poetry - it's using language to make art. it takes out the formalities and leaves the raw, interpretable stuff. love that.

  2. For the very same reasons you like art, I like writing...it's all that creative energy, individuality, expression that makes us human. I get the same pleasure out of beauty, Roger, and I can find it anywhere. Music affects me in similar ways. Can you send me a copy of your favorite painting?

  3. I would say I definately have to agree with you on art. I'm not a big art person. So going to places to look at it and ponder what is going on is hard for me sometimes! But I guess that's the whole point. You're not really supposed to know exactly what is going on in the picture.

oh and bob ross is sweet!! :)

  4. Everything in life is relative, rather that be human beings or art, or even grades. What's good to one can certainly been seen as bad to another. Art is great that sometimes it will make you think or just be whatever. I never understand how something that looks like what my cat pukes up can be sold for thousands or more. Go figure.

  5. I have definitely always been a huge fan of art. Also I have always enjoyed doing art. I always took advantage of being able to take art classes in high school. I think sculptures are sweet too. Like the ones in the venue, those were crazy looking, but really good.
